      Overview:

International Trade Centre (ITC), a subsidiary of United Nations & WTO, has under the Trade Related Technical Assistance (TRTA) Program accorded Pakistan access to Market Analysis Tools, developed by ITC to enhance awareness about international trade and building the capacity to analyze it. These Market Analysis Tools are basically three password protected websites as under:

            Market Access Map     -      www.macmap.org

      TradeMap – Trade Statistics for International Business Development

TradeMap provides on-line access to a database on product trade flows, characteristics of markets, export performance, international demand, alternative markets, and the role of competitors both from the product and country perspectives.

TradeMap covers the trade flows in terms of values, quantities, trends, market shares, and unit values both in graphic and tabular format of over 220 countries and territories, 41 country groups for 5,300 products defined at the 2-, 4- or 6-digit level of the Harmonized System. TradeMap features include:

     Analysis of present export markets:

  • Profile and dynamics of export markets for any product

  • Per unit value of export

  • Concentration of exports

  • Trend of market share 

       Selection of priority markets:

  • World’s major importing countries

  • Extent of import concentration

  • Trend of demand in specific markets over the past five years

      Overview of competitors in global and specific markets:  

  • Leading exporting countries for a given product

  • Position of specific country in world exports or imports

  • Prospects for partner and neighboring countries

      Examine opportunities for Product diversification in a specific market: 

  • Comparative assessment of import demand for related products in an export market

  • Imports of similar products

  • Possible synergies

      Review of existing/ potential bilateral trade with any partner country

  • Existing bilateral trade

  • Total import demand of partner countries

  • Overall export supply capacity of home country

      Analysis of tariffs & non tariff barriers: Information on a country’s instruments of trade control

Product Map consists of 72 web-based portals, each portal focusing on a particular sector. Overall 5,300 products (HS 6-digit) traded by over 180 countries are referenced in the Product Map.

These tools focus on the quantitative analysis of international trade and provide information to

  • compare national macroeconomic performance by country

  • analyze exports and imports

  • identify the products with strong international demand and supply capacity

  • Smart Links

  • MNS Price News

  • Trade Enquiry

These tools facilitate exporters for qualitative analysis of international market trends

and help them design better international marketing strategies. 

       Networking Tools: These tools include

  • Storefront

  • Business Contacts

These tools help businesses develop relationships in international markets. The Storefront facilities enable to set up own website to communicate information, company profile and business proposals. The Business Contacts facility provides links to trade support institutions, on-line market places and trade directories as well as companies ranging from exporters to importers and wholesalers.

      Market Access Map

The Map provides database on tariffs and market access barriers applied at the bilateral level by 170 importing countries on the products exported by over 200 countries and territories. The Map aims to enhance market transparency, support trade promotion, international marketing efforts and to facilitate the analysis of trade policy issues by business and governments.

The unique features of Market Access Map include:

  • wide geographical coverage

  • provision of tariff rates at the detailed national tariff line level

  • inclusion of ad valorem equivalent tariffs

  • integration of MFN tariffs and multilateral, regional and bilateral preferences
